Cheers to a New Year: My 2022 in Review

2022 was the year I dived into a black hole called the Psy-Changeling series. I had immensely loved Nalini Singh's contemporary romance books, so when my romance sisters Lisa and Katie kept pushing for me to start this paranormal romance series, it was due time. Side-eyeing myself for not starting this series sooner! It seems paranormal romance is kinda my jam because I binged Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews with the same fervor the year prior. I absolutely LOVED the world of Psy-Changeling *happy tears*. You bet I'll be diving into the "second arc" this year.

I was on a major board game kick last year after binging a lot of The Dice Tower videos. Tabletop games have been an on-and-off-again hobby of mine and I had made board game nights a resolution for 2021. They were a hit with my small but close circle of friends! As an introvert, these games nights became my favourite social event throughout the year heheh. I focused a lot of my energy on self-care and familial relationships. Two highlights of 2022 were seeing &Juliet musical and SEVENTEEN live in concert~ I'm focusing on travelling this year but I hope that I will also get a chance to attend more artisan markets and hobby conventions. May 2023 be kind to us all!

I read a total of 56 books in 2022! It's been a steady increase in the past few years. I'm hoping to maintain the same reading groove in 2023 and have set a reading goal of 50 books. Last year, I subscribed to two amazing Canadian-based book box subscriptions—Hushbug and Lit Love. I've reviewed both on the blog but in short, Hushbug always has a surprise romance book while Lit Love allows you to select from a curated list (often a mix of romance, thriller and historical fiction). I get the best of both worlds by investigating what the surprise book will be so I can select appropriately and not worry about doubles. This year may have sporadic or non-existent posts on the blog but my end-goal is to work on updating the blog pages and draft reviews for future posting. Lurking, I shall continue!

Here are my top 15 books of 2022:
And my top favourite read/listened/watched in 2022 in other categories:
  • Anime: Spy x Family (Honorable Mention: My Hero Academia S6)
  • Manga: Sweat and Soap (Honorable Mentions: A Condition Called Love, The Apothecary Diaries)
  • Webtoon*: Seducing the Villain's Father (Honorable Mentions: How to Get My Husband on My Side, Secret Lady, Into the Light Once Again
  • English Song: Parachute by Kyndal Inskeep and Song House (Honorable Mention: Don't Love Me by Ne-Yo)
  • English Music Album: My Blood by Christopher (Honorable Mention: Hold The Girl by Rina Sawayama)
  • Korean Song: Forever 1 by Girl's Generation (Honorable Mentions: That That by PSY ft. SUGA, Rush Hour by CRUSH ft. j-hope)
  • Korean Music Album: Sector 17 by SEVENTEEN (Honorable Mentions: GOT7 by GOT7, Indigo by RM)
  • Live-Action Movie**: Phantom: The Musical (Honorable Mention: Till)
  • Animated Film: Turning Red (Honorable Mention: The Bad Guys)
*I can't get over how many amazing Webtoon/Manhwa there are! Goodness how am I to divide my time between books, manga AND manhwa?!
**Technically it's a musical but I saw it in cinemas so that counts!

And that's 2022 in a nutshell! Last year, I challenged myself to listen to the majority of Korean music releases and I'm still trying to catch up (currently on June releases/comebacks) hahah. So much talent and so many great songs~ I'm sure 2023 will be no different. I won't be as ambition this year but I will continue to find new musicians to follow! Cheers to another year of self-care and swooning :D
