Review: RIDE STEADY by Kristen Ashley

Title: Ride Steady
Author: Kristen Ashley
Chaos #3
Publisher: Forever
Publication Date: June 30, 2015
The ride of her life...

Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy—until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa's pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight...

In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he's the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa's acting, it's clear she's falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damn hard. Now, as Joker's secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decided whether to ride steady with Carissa—or ride away forever...

"It was always you. Only you.
I was into you back then Carissa, in a big fuckin' way... And that hasn't changed."

Second chance romance at its best. Ride Steady effectively shot me in the heart and revived my 'must-read-all-KA-books' mentality after a very long KA hiatus. Joker and Carissa's story had everything I love in contemporary romance: family emphasis, endearing friendships, heart-warming romance, sexiness, an alpha male that's alpha in all the right ways, and a heroine that I wholeheartedly rooted for. I thought Shy was my number one biker boyfriend in the Chaos series, but Joker stole my heart and had me swooning to no end. [Side ramble: What is with all these hot biker names? Like Carson "Joker" Steele...*melts*]

Carissa and Joker knew each other in high school. He was the broody guy that liked to be alone. She was the sweet cheerleader who never spoke a bad word about other people. He was interested in her but she was dating someone else at the time. He thought she was too good for him and love was never high on Joker's list back then anyway. His focus was on getting out from under his father's thumb and away from the abuse. My heart ached for Joker and at their missed chance at being together.

I swear, sometimes I feel like KA wrote the manual when it comes to creating a great heroine. Carissa falls in my top 5 favorite KA heroines of all time, and I confess that I've read a lot of KA books in the past two/three years. She's goofy and kindhearted yet she won't hesitant to bare her fangs to protect her baby boy, Travis. She's strong and a superb mother. She'll put on a smile and give Travis her full attention regardless of her struggles—her biggest being custody battles with her douche of an ex.

Nothing makes me swoon more than a badass alpha that's a big softie deep down. Have that badass alpha being sweet and caring to a baby and I'm dead by ovary explosion. I love Joker. He didn't let his past define him. He rose from the ashes, finding a job doing what he loves (building cars) and a family with Chaos. I loved that Ride Steady didn't just focus on second chance romance. Joker also had a second chance at mending ties with the mentors he left behind after leaving his father. I cried when he reunited with his 'family'. Relationship values were highlighted in this book as well. I was very glad that Carissa and Joker always communicated their concerns or fessed up to mistakes. They had each other's backs and stood on equal footing in their relationship.

I could go on but I'll spare you the 500 word paragraph about Joker and Travis' interactions *wink*. Anyone who loves Kristen Ashley or MC romances should definitely give this book a try! Once you get sucked into Chaos you'll be wanting to call everyone 'Babe' and finding your own hot biker.

This series is a spin-off from Kristen Ashley's Dream Man series, focusing on the members of Chaos MC. Highly recommended that you read Motorcycle Man before starting this series because many of the members are introduced in that book!

  1. I kinda skimmed around the review because I haven't realized that this was the third of the series. BUT GOSH I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THIS GAAAH. You got me at "Have that badass alpha being sweet and caring to a baby and I'm dead by ovary explosion". Who doesn't love a caring and sweet alpha male gaaah. CANNOT WAIT TO READ THIS!
